PCPA | Designer: Thomas J. Bernard | Draper: Juliette Lunger
I engineered, tested, and constructed the trick-collars (and their non-reveal counterparts) for the ensemble during We See The Light. The rolls of sequined fabric are tucked inside a pocket within the collars and secured with magnets sewn in the lining. The collars detach at the shoulder to create a seamless look before the reveal happens.
This production was inspired by an early statement from the playwright "who better to explain toxic masculinity than a woman?" and the purposeful dissonance between the identities of the actors and the identities of the characters. I wanted to highlight both of these ideas by playing with different athletic wear pieces and creating shapes that were more feminine, especially for our male-aligned actors (while still working with indiviudal modesty needs and concerns)
Production time: 2 weeks; all pieces were thrifted or from university storage, then dyed/cropped/altered.
Thrifted Items: $97
Custom Wrestling Singlets: $291
Wrestling Support Items & Shoes: $453
Other Shoes & Undergarments: $94
Cricut Cutter & Vinyl: $198
Production time: 2 weeks; all pieces were hand-dyed and constructed by self (sans leotards & other dance garments)
I wanted this production to have a very illustration-esque feel to the costumes. The original design was to make the costumes for the dancers in advance, and then embellish and dye during the 2-week devising process. However due to cast changes and other production issuese, I could not start building or ordering until the beginning of the 2-week production period.

Production time: 1.5 months; Swimsuit was crafted by me, as well as the shorts the Referee wears, the rest of the costumes were bought as the script's dialogue is draconian about what the men wear.
I did not have much freedom in the designs of this work due costume pieces being laid out in dialogue in-script, so instead I focused on sewing and patterning skills with the referee's swimsuit (which is functional and is still worn by the actress) as well as her shorts. However this was my first production as a costume designer, and was by and far my least stressful production process.
